As with anything else, in order to type in Old English, you will need the proper tools to fit the job. Although, because of automated page conversion, there is no need to type using "ȝƿ" on this site, and you should not type with runes on this site (because it is much more difficult to accurately automatically convert runes to the Latin alphabet than it is to convert the Latin alphabet to runes), you may nevertheless want to type using "ȝƿ", and it is the standard on this site to type with macrons. As such, as bare minimum, it is important on this site for you to be able to type with macrons. Note that all article categories will be named in gw, and that is invariably how they should be written in the article's source code.

# A software-based keyboard can be downloaded [http://megse.unm.edu/research/internal/keyboards.html here]. The provided link also includes instructions on how to type the extra characters, installation, and switching between keyboards. Alternatively, you can create your own software-based custom keyboard layout with a program such as [http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/goglobal/bb964665.aspx Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator]. This allows you to organize the extra characters according to what feels natural to you.
