Translation of Republic and Republican

Old English used cynewīse for republic (respublica), along with "the state" and "commonwealth." The question is, should that be applied when translating "republic" or perhaps calque something like "folcesþing," or follow Icelandic and use "lēodweald" (lýðveldi) and some derivation to describe a republican and a Republican. --James (talk) 02:31, 8 Hrēþmōnaþ 2013 (UTC)
