Morocco does appear, in ne form, in Old English: in Orosius is Mauretania, which is a Roman name for that part of the Affrican coast: land of the Mauri, or Moors. I always assumed that the name "Morocco" is a Spanish name for Land of the Moors, though in fact it comes from Marrakesh (which may be of the same origin).

So either we stick with Morocco, as originating in the Kingdom of Marrakesh, as told to us by its nervous neighbours, the Spaniards, or switch to a Latin Mauretania (and be immediately confused by what to do with Mauritania). Hogweard (talk) 20:35, 16 Winterfylleþ 2013 (UTC)
